Katelyn is two!! This completely blows my mind. She was supposed to stay an infant forever. She is the cutest little thing ever these days. I love watching her grow and learn new things. Her vocabulary is rapidly expanding, and her little (or BIG) personality is really starting to blossom. She had her birthday party at our neighborhood clubhouse with a mix of her school friends and family. She has been talking about her birthday party for weeks now, and when you ask her what she wants for her birthday, all she says is, "cake!" (
That's a girl after my own heart.) I did a flamingo theme for her birthday, and I think it turned out so cute! The invitations said, "Let's Flamingle!" and were pink and aqua which are both of our favorite colors, not to mention Katelyn had the perfect matching outfit, so I knew it was meant to be :). I didn't really do a good job taking pictures of all the details, but that's ok. I was able to get lots of pictures of her and her guests which is all that really matters.
She kept talking about her party and all of her friends that were going to come. It was so precious. Then, she also had a small class party at snack time on her actual birthday. It is super sweet, because one of her classmates, Julia, shares the same birthday. They were actually born in the same hospital, delivered by the same doctor, about an hour apart from each other. So we had a joint party for the friend twins! Katelyn was SO EXCITED. She loved that I came to celebrate with her, and kept telling everyone, "that's my momma!" I love that I make her so proud (
I'll have to remember these days when she is a teenager and wants nothing to do with me.) After her school party, I picked her and Brady up at lunch time to come home and nap, and then we ended the day with a trip to the zoo. She has certainly had her fill of cupcakes and was well celebrated for her second birthday.
Brady on the other hand has had quite the struggle with Katelyn's birthday. It has been very hard for him that it has not been all about him. Katelyn got a play hairdresser kit for her birthday which included a pair of pretend scissors. Brady has been dying to play with these scissors and Katelyn will not let them out of her sight or let Brady hold them. He has had several break downs over this. After the scissor fiasco, Katelyn also got a play diaper bag that was equipped with "wipes". These wipes are literally a small plastic case with 3 pieces of tissue folded inside. He was beside himself that Katelyn won't share the wipes and that he wants his own wipes. He has now been asking me when it will be his birthday and currently his wish list is for his own pair of scissors and wipes....the struggle is real.
Here are all the little details I need to remember about Katelyn at age 2:
1. She can talk up a storm. It would take too long to write down everything she can say, but she can pretty much repeat anything. My favorite saying lately is, "Oh lo sakes!" Meaning- "Oh Lord, goodness sakes!" That is my little southern bell right there.
2. She still kind of waddles when she runs, and it is the cutest thing ever. She will tell me, "run momma!"
3. For a while she was calling Brady "Bray Bray", but just recently she can pronounce his whole name.
4. She calls Riley, "Ri", and tells him, "No Ri!" "Down Ri!"
5. Her favorite foods are: grapes, strawberries, "fren fry", spaghetti, pizza, bread, broccoli, crackers, corn, and yogurt. She is pretty picky about meat, but sometimes she will eat chicken.
6. Her favorite books are: Duck and Goose, Princess Baby, Pat the Bunny, Goodnight Moon, Pat the Zoo
7. She still won't really sit and watch TV, but the only shows she requests in the morning are Mickey Mouse and Elmo. She will also say, "Sam!" which is referring to Fireman Sam, because Brady has brainwashed her with his obsession.
8. She still takes one nap a day for about 2 hours and sleeps from about 7:30pm- 7:30am. She has a strict nightly routine. We brush her teeth, read 2 books, I fly her like an airplane into her bed, then I must also fly her lamby into the bed, I kiss both of her feet through the crack of her crib, then she can go to sleep :). She still is obsessed with her bunny lovely which she calls "Mom-mom" and sleeps with her every night along with lamby, monk monk, and "lovey".
9. When she gets really excited she clinches her fists and stomps up and down squealing. It is too cute.
10. She absolutely LOVES Brady, but they have started their little sibling bickering (prime example above- fighting over toys).
11. She has started going #1 and #2 on the potty. I really think she will be super easy to potty train. The only reason I am not full on potty training is because they won't do it at school until she moves to the 2's, and there is no point of doing it at home if they won't do it there.
12. We have kind of entered into the terrible twos. Her emotions can sway from one to the next pretty quickly, and she can be quite the drama queen.
13. She is obsessed with momma. She loves her daddy, but momma must do EVERYTHING for her. This is partly my fault as I think I have babied her too much, but she is definitely a momma's girl right now.
14. Her favorite toys are her purse, diaper bag, baby stroller, pots and pans, and her tea set.
She is the most hilarious little thing, and we could not love her anymore. She and Brady are so different, but both so special in their own ways. I am so blessed to be their mommy, and while it makes me so sad to see her turn a year older, it is so fun to watch her learn and grow everyday. She had her two year well check, and she is a very healthy 2 year old who is right now track or beyond all the milestones she should be meeting. The doctor estimates that she will be between 5'6 and 5'7 when she is full grown :).
Here are some pictures from the party. Ill post pictures from her actual birthday and class party in another post, because there were just too many to choose from!
